The rain that fell in Modesto early Monday morning – 0.21 inches, according to the Modesto Irrigation District – didn't necessarily have a big impact on residents. But at Dodge Ridge, the stormy conditions translated to 9 inches of snow for the Sierra foothills ski resort. Employees there were greeted to more than a dusting as evidenced by photos taken early Monday morning and later in the day. There has been no confirmed opening date at Dodge Ridge for the 2017-18 season, but typically the slopes – snow permitting – are open by mid-December, according to Jeff Hauff, director of marketing and sales at the resort in Pinecrest. Bear Valley, in nearby Alpine County, postponed its scheduled opening last weekend. There's a chance for more wet stuff on Saturday – rain in Modesto and snow in Pinecrest – according to the National Weather Service. For more weather, go to Page 8A.
