Modesto man killed in Highway 99 crash Sunday morning ID'd
The 27-year-old Modesto man killed in a single-car crash on Highway 99 early Sunday has been identified by the Stanislaus County Coroner's Office as Andrew Rochin.
The rollover crash was reported at 3:37 a.m. on southbound Highway 99 near Beckwith Road in north Modesto.
First responders arrived on scene and found a 2004 Dodge Durango, with Rochin lying several feet from the truck. He was declared dead at the scene, the California Highway Patrol said in a news release.
Investigators determined the Durango was going south on the freeway when for an unknown reason it left the road. The truck hit a light pole on the right shoulder, then went down an embankment and hit a chain link fence. The pickup rolled several times, ejecting Rochin.
A gofundme.com page set up in his name says Rochin was on his way home from his second week of work. "From what witnesses say, a big cloud of smoke came from the hood and he swerved to the side and lost control and died instantly," the text on the page reads. "Andrew was a loving husband and a unforgettable dad to 6 kids he loved as his own."
Rochin's wife, Deangel Zamora Rochin, posted on Facebook, "To all who really knew him they'll never forget him he was one of a kind."
