After the Black Friday bargain-buy blitz, lots of people may want nothing more than to remain in their pj's Saturday.

Downtown Modesto businesses hear that but don't think staying snuggly should keep shoppers from supporting Small Business Saturday.

So, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., shops and services are taking part in downtown's Pajama Stroll. " Enjoy comforting treats like milk and cookies along the trail of small and boutique shops while wearing your comfies," says the Downtown Modesto Partnership, which is hosting the event.

Among the specials, Modesto On Ice, 1131 11th St., is offering a discount for those who skate in their pajamas. Greens on Tenth has photos with Santa, DoMo says, with "the prettiest backdrop and the lowest price in Modesto." And at Mira Bridal Couture, a woman might enter in footies and leave in formal wear because the shop has "discounts of 30 to 60 percent off everything you need for this season’s holiday parties and more," DoMo says.

After the Pajama Stroll ends, merchants suggest shoppers rest up and return for the night's Mod Shop indie crafters market, another Small Business Saturday event.

Pop-up craft shops will fill businesses along and near J Street, including Deva Cafe, Concetta, Preservation Coffee & Tea, Peer Recovery, Mod Spot, Health Plan San Joaquin Community Room, Tresetti’s, Mistlin Gallery, Mira Bridal Couture and Ralston’s Goat. There will be food, drink and live entertainment, too.

Another hub of Small Business Saturday activity is the McHenry Village shopping center, on McHenry Avenue just south of Briggsmore Avenue. This is the opening weekend of Santa's Village, and St. Nick sets up shop Friday afternoon to meet and take photos with kids of all ages.

Beginning Saturday, the center will offer free horse-drawn carriage rides on Saturdays and Sundays between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m.

The center is home to many popular shops including Mulberry Lane, Farmer's Daughter, Stewart & Jasper and Phillips Lighting & Home.

Another opportunity to shop and spend close to home is the Local Vendor Faire hosted by Get Fit Modesto, 2801 McHenry Ave., Suite D. The event is from 8 a.m. to noon and promises "unique, handmade gifts."
