Info: The Angels Camp Business Association presents the grand kickoff to local holiday celebrations with the sixth annual Christmas of Angels Open House and Wine Stroll and the 27 annual Parade of Lights beginning at 5 p.m. in historic downtown Angels Camp, rain or shine. Local merchants will be hosting an Open House and seven downtown businesses will have featured wineries located inside their store, with wine available for tasting. Purchase a commemorative wine glass for just $5. What: Guided Snowshoe Walks
When: Saturdays, 1 p.m.
Where: Calaveras Big Trees, 1170 CA-4
Info: The Calaveras Big Trees Association invites the public on its guided snow-shoe walks, snow conditions permitting. Snowshoes are provided free to the first 30 people who show up prior to the 1 p.m. starting time. Snow shoes are available for adults and children, or you can bring your own. Suggested check by 12:30 p.m. to make sure there are adequate snow shoes available. If you use the park's snowshoes you must stay with the guide. Experience on snowshoes is not required. Children are welcome when accompanied by an adult. The snow-shoe walks take about 90 minutes. What: Oakdale Garden Club Festival of Trees

Info: The Oakdale Garden Club will be holding its Annual Festival of Trees event. The Lighting of the Trees ceremony heralds the beginning of the Holiday Season with decorated trees, each one sponsored by a local businesses and individual families. The decorated trees will remain in the park until Jan. 2, 2018. Included in the festivities will be Buddy the Elf, there to greet kids of all ages, plus photo opportunities where visitors can take their own pictures with a cut-out Santa and Snowman and more. 50 YEARS AGO: Bernard Souza Jr. of Turlock was declared Stanislaus County’s Outstanding Young Farmer for 1967. Souza was honored at the Hotel Covell in the Fable Room, sponsored by the Modesto Junior Chamber of Commerce. The first runner-up was Phillip Short of Hughson with Jerry Marquis of Oakdale receiving third. Souza operated a 325-head Grade A Holstein dairy, and was the world champion hand milker. He won the title for the six consecutive years in the San Francisco based competition.
