Well, it's not a Cheesecake Factory. But Manteca is about to get one of the region's most coveted food chains.
Chick-fil-A, the fast-food chicken chain, is coming to Manteca according to a report in the Manteca Bulletin. The Atlanta-based company has restaurants across the United States including close to 100 in California. But before now the closest Northern San Joaquin Valley location was in Stockton, with the next nearest in Elk Grove and Pleasanton.
Details about the new Chick-fil-A will be discussed during the Manteca Planning Commission meeting Tuesday. The restaurant would be located on the northeast corner of East Yosemite and Northwoods avenues, just off Highway 99 and next to a Best Western hotel. The existing Super Buffet Chinese restaurant will be torn down to make way for the 4,172-square-foot new structure.
Chik-fil-A has gained a loyal, almost cult-like following, thanks to fried chicken sandwiches and its cross-cut waffle fries. The company has long used the slogan "Eat Mor Chikin," with a cow holding a misspelled sign, in its advertising. But the chain has also courted some national controversy. Dan Cathy, the CEO of the privately held company and son of its founder, has spoken out publicly against same-sex marriage over the years, sparking backlash and support.
