Suicide attempt draws response to Highway 99 overpass in Modesto
A suicidal man clung to a Highway 99 overpass for about 45 minutes Sunday before officers persuaded him to get off, Modesto police reported.
A call came at about 3:30 p.m. about a man in his mid-20s who was outside a fence along the Briggsmore-Carpenter overpass, Sgt. Kalani Souza said. Freeway and overpass traffic was stopped as officers talked with the man with the help of a passerby who is a mental health worker, he said.
The man was despondent over family issues, Souza said.
