One person died late Saturday when a pickup crashed into a parked big rig trailer in an industrial area just south of downtown.

The crash was reported about 11:15 p.m. along Fifth Street, near D Street, according to a news release from the Turlock Fire Department.

Firefighters arrived at the crash site and found the pickup wedged underneath the parked trailer. The trailer was not attached to a big rig.

The firefighters spotted one person entangled inside the pickup. They worked quickly to separate the pickup and the trailer. Using equipment, they lifted the trailer and pulled out the pickup, fire officials said.

The firefighters then used heavy extrication tools to reach the person inside the crashed pickup. Once the firefighters got inside the pickup, paramedics determined the person inside was dead.

The Turlock Police Department’s Major Accident Investigation Team was called to the scene to investigate the crash. Police officials on Sunday could not be reached to respond to questions about the deadly crash.
