What: Emanuel Lutheran’s Day Care

What: Modesto Kiwanis Club meeting

Where: Famiglia Bistro, 2501 McHenry Ave.

Info: The Modesto Kiwanis invites the public to its lunch meeting. Mary Menz, founder and director of Modesto Argentine Tango, will discuss how dance helps the body and the origins of the tango; she will demonstrate the tango in the restaurant’s ballroom. What: City of Modesto water schedule

When: Effective Nov. 1

Where: City of Modesto

Info: On Oct. 10, the City Council approved two days a week outdoor water use for the city’s contiguous water customers; Modesto, Empire, Salida and Ceres. These customers are served by both surface water and groundwater. The two-days-a-week schedule will be effective from Nov. 1, 2017 through March 31, 2018. The City Council also approved the return to three days a week watering schedule from April 1, 2018, through Oct. 31, 2018, for these contiguous water customers and these schedules will continue year around. For customers with addresses ending in an even number, outdoor watering is permitted Tuesdays and Saturdays. For customers with addresses ending in an odd number, outdoor watering is permitted Wednesdays and Sundays. Outdoor water use prohibited daily from 12 p.m.-7 p.m. and no outdoor water use Monday, Thursday or Friday. For more information, visit modestogov.com.

What: Calaveras Fair Beef Exhibitor Deadline

When: Deadline Dec. 21

Where: Angels Camp Museum, 753 S. Main St.

Info: The Calaveras County Fair and Jumping Frog Jubilee announces requirements for junior livestock beef exhibitors. If you are planning to exhibit a market beef project or a replacement heifer project, you must own the animal by Dec. 21. Heifers must have their brucellosis vaccine before being accepted. What: Elementary spelling bee

When: Wednesday, 5:30 p.m.

Where: Central Valley High School, 4033 Central Ave.

Info: Top spellers from area schools will compete in the Stanislaus County Elementary Spelling Championship on Wednesday. The Elementary Spelling Championship, for children in grades 4 through 6, will be at Central Valley High School. Sponsored by the Stanislaus County Office of Education, the event is open to the public and begins promptly at 5:30 p.m. The top two spellers in the Elementary Spelling Championship will represent Stanislaus County at the state competition in Stockton on May 12. What: Live Your Dream Award

When: Deadline: Nov. 15

Info: The Soroptimist International of Oakdale presents, Live Your Dream Award, the signature project for the Soroptimist International of the Americas. Each year, the program provides cash grants to head-of-household women so they can achieve their career goals by completing their education or job training. Applicants must demonstrate financial need and be enrolled in, or have been accepted to, a vocational/skills training program or an undergraduate degree program.
