An Amtrak train struck and killed a pedestrian in northeast Modesto on Tuesday night, police said.
The unidentied man was hit at about 8 p.m. at Claus Road and Santa Fe Avenue, said Lt. Aaron Tait of the Modesto Police Department. Other details were not yet available.
Passengers waited aboard the stopped train while responders worked the scene. Automobile traffic was slowed near the tracks, which are owned by the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad.
It was the third time in three days that a pedestrian was struck and killed by a train in Stanislaus County. On Sunday, a freight train hit Mowafaq Asaad, 54, in downtown Modesto, police said. An unidentified man was killed by a freight train in downtown Turlock the same day.
