25 YEARS AGO: It was reported that Amtrak would officially make a stop at the new Turlock/Denair station. Turlock City Councilwoman Carolyn Ratto said it was a milestone and one more step toward the kind of rail service valley residents need. Ratto continued that she and other officials would like to see non-stop service from Stanislaus County to Sacramento and Los Angeles. At the time, riders heading northbound had to get off in Stockton and take a bus to Sacramento, while those traveling southbound had to disembark in Bakersfield and take a bus over the Grapevine to get to L.A.
