The pedestrian struck and killed by a train Sunday afternoon in Modesto has been identified as a 54-year-old Modesto man, Mowafaq Asaad.

Very early Sunday, another man suffered the same fate in Turlock, but his name was withheld by the Stanislaus County Coroner's Office on Monday afternoon pending notification of family.

The Turlock collision happened just before 1 a.m. The conductor saw the white male adult lying between the tracks just south of Marshall Street, police reported. "The male was unable to get off the tracks fast enough" and was pronounced dead at the scene, according to an incident summary.

The Modesto collision was reported about 4 p.m. Sunday near the Transit Center near Ninth Street. Witnesses said Asaad was walking on the tracks when struck.
