Coroner's Office IDs pedestrian killed in early-morning collision outside Modesto
A male pedestrian was killed early Sunday morning when struck by a driver on a country road southwest of Vintage Faire Mall.
The man was identified by the Stanislaus County Coroner's Office as Ronald Patterson, 28, who was transient but living in the Modesto area.
The crash happened about 1:19 a.m., according to the California Highway Patrol. The driver, identified only as a 23-year-old man, was westbound on Shoemake Avenue, west of Finney Road, traveling at roughly the posted speed limit, the CHP reported.
The pedestrian was in the traffic lane and the driver of a Saturn was unable to avoid hitting him. Emergency responders pronounced him dead at the scene.
Alcohol and drugs to not appear to have been factors in the crash, the CHP said.
