‘Skeleton crew’ leads Halloween-themed trains out of Jamestown this month

Fans of Halloween and of railroads can enjoy both on special trains running out of Jamestown this month.

Railtown 1897 State Historic Park is offering the Harvest Haunt Express on all four weekends in October. They feature costumed workers — a “skelton crew,” as the organizers put it — and are for the whole family.

Saturday trains are pulled by Sierra No. 3, a restored steam locomotive that has had a role in many movies and TV shows. A vintage diesel engine takes over on Sundays. The rides are on part of the Sierra Railroad, which runs between Oakdale and Standard and mainly carries lumber.

Tickets and other information are at www.railtown1897.org or call 209-984- 3953.
