What: Tuolumne River Cleanup

When: Saturday, 9 a.m.-noon

Where: Tuolumne River (9th St. and River Rd. on the south bank)

Info: Operation 9-2-99 will meet on the South Bank of the Tuolumne River at Ninth Street and River Road All volunteers welcome, and those that are 18 and under need a parent signed waiver form that is available on the website and should be completed in advance. What: Law Enforcement Appreciation Day

Info: The LEAD team has come together for the second year in a row to offer community residents the opportunity to support and appreciation local law enforcement. What: Wild Planet Day

When: Saturday, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Where: Great Valley Museum, 2201 Blue Gum Ave.

Info: The Great Valley Museum is holding the eighth annual Wild Planet Day family science festival in the Science Community Center on the MJC West Campus. Admission for the day is $5 per person and $20 for a family of up to six people. Children 4 years and under are free. Wild Planet Day will feature hands-on science activities for all ages, including a celebration of California’s brown bear with informational talks by Ranger Shawn Estes, an interpretive specialist from the Stanislaus National Forest and more. OAKDALE

What: Oakdale Garden Club Outing

When: Tuesday, 10:15 a.m.

Where: Oakdale City Parking Lot (South. Yosemite Ave. and East G Street)

Info: The Oakdale Garden Club will be holding it's first Fall Field Trip to Lorina's Edible Gardens in Escalon. Those interested in joining the group are asked to meet at the Oakdale City Parking Lot located at So. Yosemite Avenue & East G Street, adjacent to Wood Park, by 10:15 a.m., which will allow for travel time to the Escalon location, scheduled to begin at 11:00 a.m. At the tour's conclusion, participants can meet for lunch on their own at a local restaurant. 75 YEARS AGO: It was reported that more than 2,000 Modesto citizens took part in a simulated air raid attack conducted by the county defense corps on the east side of the city. The conclusion by W. W. Hopkins, executive secretary of the Stanislaus County Defense Council, was more practice would be needed. The simulated air raid tested 37 incidents where likely emergencies would arise from an air raid.
