Alcohol suspected factor in major injury crash on 132

Two Coulterville women sustained major injuries Wednesday night in a suspected drunk driving crash east of Waterford.

The women were in a Ford SUV eastbound on Highway 132, near Dienstag Road, when the vehicle left the road and struck a wood utility pole at about 8:45 p.m., according to California Highway Patrol Officer Tom Olsen.

The driver, 23-year-old Ashley Owens, was taken by air ambulance to Memorial Medical Center. The passenger, 35-year-old Tenaya Cunningham, was taken by air ambulance to Doctors Medical Center. Both suffered major injuries.

Olsen said alcohol is believed to have contributed to the collision.
