Cross and flame enhance bell tower at First United Methodist Church in Modesto

A downtown Modesto landmark, the First United Methodist Church, dedicated its new “cross and flame” signs Sunday.

Members of the 16th Street congregation enjoyed a barbecue on the lawn as part of the event. The signs are about halfway up the bell tower, which the church said “offers a musical witness of our ministry as it chimes every hour and demonstrates our vital presence and witness to the gospel in the heart of the city.”
