50 YEARS AGO: Residents of Pecos Avenue in south Modesto were denied their request to have Stanislaus County take over their block long dirt road in favor of pavement. The Board of Supervisors denied the request after residents submitted nearly 190 signatures and written “testimony” from residents who lived along the 850-foot stretch of unpaved road. Supervisors reaffirmed their policy of refusing to accept unimproved street into the county unless the residents or property owners raised the street to county standards.
