What: Summer Dance Classes
When: Through June 29
Where: Center for Urban Performance and Service, 950 Columbia St.
Info: Three weeks remain in the Center for Urban Performance and Service’s four-week summer dance and music classes, featuring a variety of classes by professional artists. The second week begins Monday and focuses on urban styles of dance such as hip-hop. Weeks three and four will focus on ballet, jazz and more. Dancers of all ages and levels are welcome to attend these master classes. A Summer Fest will be held June 29 at Turlock Community Theatre, exhibiting the various dances that were learned over summer. Housing is available on site for out-of-town guests for an extra cost. 50 YEARS AGO: The United States Office of Education announced that the Hughson Union High School District would be authorized to launch an ungraded school system. With the approval the district would also receive $158,389 to replace the class ranking system at the high school level for freshmen, sophomore, junior and seniors, with the designation of “continuous progress” for all students with two to three years. The federal grant was made under Title 3 of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act.
