25 YEARS AGO: The Modesto City Schools board of education was to consider raising fees on parents who used their Latchkey programs at sites throughout the district during the districts next meeting. The extra fees would be set aside for future use at John Muir and Fremont schools, in order to purchase portable classrroms for their Latchkey programs. The fee hikes would be 17 cents more on schools days and 35 cents on non school days, with the maximum yearly increase being $54.24 per child. At that time, parents had been paying $7.25 and $14.25 respectively.
