Info: The American Red Cross Gold Country Region seeks heroes of Stanislaus County to be honored at a special 100 Years of Heroes recognition event. The event will take place July 12 at the Double Tree by Hilton in Modesto. If you know of someone who has demonstrated an act of heroism in the last year, now is your chance to place that person in the spotlight. We will honor our everyday heroes as we celebrate one hundred years of the Red Cross in Stanislaus County. Submit the story of your hero and why s/he should be recognized. 100 YEARS AGO: The J.C. Penney Co. advertised the “Elkskine outing shoe” for $2.25. The company said it bought 7,500 pairs of the shoe for its 175 stores nationally. Beyond shoes, J.C. Penney also sold dry goods and other clothing items for less as well.
