What: VFW “Buddy Poppy” Donation Drive
When: Sunday, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Where: Save Mart and Walmart locations
Info: In 1922, the national Veterans of Foreign Wars conducted its first poppy distribution. And during the 1923 encampment, the VFW decided that “Buddy” poppies would be assmbled by disabled and needy veterans who would be paid for their work. The VFW Post 3199 will be at Save Mart Supermarkets on Standiford/Prescott and Oakdale Rd., as well as the Walmart on Coffee/Orangeburg. All donations go to the Veteran’s Relief Fund to help veterans and their families. For more information contact Dan Cruz, 209-521-9632.

Info: The American Red Cross Gold Country Region seeks heroes of Stanislaus County to be honored at a special 100 Years of Heroes recognition event. The event will take place July 12 at the Double Tree by Hilton in Modesto. Submit the story of your hero and why he or she should be recognized. Info: The Stanislaus Wildlife Care Center celebrates spring with its annual Baby Animal Shower. Educational animals will be on display, though babies in rehab will not be. Info: The Disability Resource Agency for Independent Living (DRAIL) is will be hosting its annual Charity Golf Tournament held at Oakdale Golf and Country Club. The cost is $150 per player. What: After Mother’s Day Omelet Breakfast
When: Sunday, 8:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.
Where: Riverbank Community Center, 3600 Santa Fe Street
Info: The Riverbank Historical Museum will be hosting an after Mother’s Day omelet breakfast. This is the museum’s yearly fundraiser to help pay for maintenance and up-keep of the Riverbank Historical Museum. Guests will get a full breakfast, cost is $10 for adults and $5 for children 6 & under. Tickets may be purchased at the Museum, the Riverbank City Hall or at the door. 100 YEARS AGO: The Morris Brother Book Store announced it had recieved new records for the month of June. Some of the titles included; “I’m a Twelve o’clocl fellow in a Nine o’clock town,” With his hands in his pockets and his pockets in his pants,” and “I wasn’t born to be lonesome”.
