Where: Modesto Junior College East Campus, 435 College Ave.

Info: High school seniors and other first time students will meet in the auditorium of the Performing and Media Arts Center. Attendance and campus parking are free. TWAIN HARTE

What: Twain Harte a la Carte

When: Saturday, 5 to 7 p.m.

Where: Meadow Plaza, 23000 Meadow Lane

Info: The Twain Harte Soroptimists will hold its 21 annual Twain Harte a la Carte. The event will feature wine tastings and food selections from local wineries, restaurants and caterers. Proceeds benefit community projects such as high school scholarships, The Center for a Non Violent Community, Habitat for Humanity and many other community groups. 75 YEARS AGO: Modesto Girl Scouts were holding a War Stamp Rally. The war stamp rally was held at Beard Brook Park and the Girl Scout Clubhouse. Admission to the event was 10 to 25 cent war stamps. The scouts kept the stamps for their collections. Scouts and their leaders were encouraged to bring a picnic lunch.
