Martin Luther King events begin with luncheon

Local events commemorating Martin Luther King Jr. kicked off with a luncheon Friday, fittingly held at the King-Kennedy Memorial Center in Modesto. Dozens of people attended the annual Birthday Luncheon and Legacy Celebration, where they heard a presentation from Daryn Kumar, the chief executive officer of Memorial Medical Center. Attendees also heard singer Audrey Spearman perform “I Need You.”
