Man hit, killed by train in downtown Modesto

Modesto police are investigating the death of a pedestrian hit by a train Tuesday evening.

According to Lt. Ivan Valencia, the incident occurred at 6:31 p.m. near Ninth and L streets in downtown Modesto. The pedestrian had been identified only as an adult male.

At 7:15 p.m., authorities were awaiting the arrival of staff from the Stanislaus County Coroner’s Office. The train was stopped and several intersections in the area were closed.

The Coroner’s Office said Wednesday afternoon that official identification still was not available.
