What: Compassionate Friends Worldwide Candle Lighting

Info: Families and friends are invited to attend this program in memory of children, grandchildren and siblings who have died at any age, from any cause. Candles are lit at 7 p.m. in each time zone. Info: The city of Modesto will be celebrating its third annual Modesto Rockin’ Holiday Thursdays through Saturdays from 6 to 9 p.m. in December. Tenth Street Place Plaza will be given a retro-holiday feel. Rockin’ Holiday is free, and photos with Rockin’ Santa and his Rockin’ Elves are free in the Classic Rockin’ Sleigh at the Rockin’ North Pole in Tenth Street Plaza. There will also be a 50-foot Rockin’ Holiday Tree that will feature light shows daily from 6 p.m. to 1 a.m. to dazzle downtown Modesto visitors, synched to Rockin’ Holiday music. Info: Parents from the west side of Stanislaus County have solicited help from Delta Charter Schools to host a “town hall” meeting to discuss charter school options for area children. There is no cost to attend the event. Attendees will learn about Delta Pacific Academy, a tuition-free program of Delta Charter Schools. 100 YEARS AGO: The Star Theater announced its one-day-only features. The first feature was “The Reward of Patience,” from Paramount Pictures and starring Louise Huff and Lottie Pickford. Second was “Gloria’s Romance,” starring Billie Burke. The theater also announced its one-day only feature for the next day: “Rags,” starring Mary Pickford. Prices were 15 cents for adults and 5 cents for children.
