75 YEARS AGO: It was announced that the Merced City Council adopted a resolution accepting the deed to 462 acres of land, adjacent to First and V Streets from the Merced Irrigation District. The purpose of the deeded land was for the future construction of a $277,000 municipal airport. In other business between the council and district, the district charged the city $9,240 for land, $2,090 for removal of tenants on the land and $1,000 for the construction of a new canal adjacent to an older canal already on the land. It was estimated that the property could cost taxpayers $12,330.
