25 YEARS AGO: The Sylvan Union School District was restarting plans to construct a middle school. The delay in construction of Elizabeth Ustach Middle School was due in part to concerns the ground under the future middle school would not support the buildings. The greatest concern was the ground and footings for the 20,000-square-foot multipurpose building, the largest building on the grounds. Two geotechnical firms studied the soil content, with Kleinfelder and Wallace-Kuhl and Associates receiving the contract to conduct further work.
