Info: Big Valley Grace Community Church will be hosting the third annual Pancake Breakfast. All proceeds will go to benefit the Chemo Crew support group and the support services the group provides to local cancer patients. Enjoy pancakes with a visit from Santa and a silent auction. Info: The Modesto Junior College Department of Music presents the Symphonic Band in concert. The event is open to the public and admission is free, with donations gratefully accepted. Director of Bands Erik Maki will conduct the ensemble as it performs a wide variety of music for modern wind band. What: Us Too Prostate Cancer Support Group

Info: The support group is marking its 19th anniversary and plans to honor military veterans. Special guest speaker Kim Viviano, fitness program manager for the Healthy Aging Association, will offer instruction on exercises that can improve balance and prevent falls. Us Too offers knowledge on prostate disease, treatment options, and tools for rebuilding satisfying lives after cancer. After the featured program, men and women will form separate groups to share personal stories and perspectives. The evening will end with snacks and socializing. Everyone is welcome. What: “The Polar Express” Train Ride
When: Dec. 2-18, 4:30-9 p.m.
Where: Railtown 1897, 10501 Reservoir Rd.
Info: California State Parks, Railtown 1897 State Historic Park and the California State Railroad Museum Foundation are proud to present “The Polar Express” Train Ride on Fridays through Sundays from Dec. 2-18. Three festive train rides will be available each day, starting at 4:30 p.m., 6 and 7:30. The holiday experience includes keepsake souvenir tickets, hot cocoa, festive holiday cookies and more. Tickets are $50 per person for coach seating, open-air car is $180 per table of four, and $65 per person for first class seating that includes a commemorative “The Polar Express” mug. Children under 2 are admitted free and must be seated on an adult’s lap during the ride. The train ride is a fundraiser for the California State Railroad Museum Foundation, which supports Railtown 1897 State Historic Park. 100 YEARS AGO: The Star Theater announced its one-day-only presentation of “The Manager of the B&A.” It starred Helen Holmes in a five-act railroad drama. The event included a showing of “The Floating Trap,” starring Billie Burke, a cartoon comedy. Admission was 15 cents for adults and 5 cents for children.
