40 YEARS AGO: It was announced that the Stanislaus County narcotics strike force had accomplished all but one of its goals in fiscal year 1975-76. The second-year evaluation conducted by Kenneth Monteith, for region K of the Criminal Justice Planning Board, recommended that local funding be given to the program after the supporting federal grant ran out in May of following year. The Stanislaus County Drug Enforcement Unit, operated on a $250,000 annual budget, failed in reaching the goal of increasing by 50 percent the number of felony arrests in the second year of the project and by 75 percent the number of arrests of major dealers.
