Memorial service set for fallen deputy

A memorial service will be held next week for Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Deputy Dennis Wallace, fatally shot near Hughson Sunday morning.

Wallace was killed Sunday morning after calling in a suspicious van at Fox Grove park near Hughson. The suspect in his death, David Machado, was arrested several hours later in Tulare County.

The service will take place at 11 a.m. Nov. 22 at CrossPoint Community Church, 1301 12th St., Modesto, the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Department said in a news release. It will be open to the public.

“ Community members who wish to attend should plan for an early arrival as parking will be limited,” the release said. “Further details about memorial service will be sent out over the next few days.”
