Modesto City Council watch

The City Council on Tuesday took the following actions:

  • Approved a $267,707 agreement with Virginia-based CelPlan Technologies for providing and installing 25 graffiti surveillance cameras at city water and wastewater facilities and three at the new Highway 99 interchange at Pelandale Avenue. The funding for this project does not come from the city’s general fund.
  • Appointed six members to Modesto’s comprehensive fees task force: Opportunity Stanislaus CEO Dave White, Self-Help Federal Credit Union Executive Vice President Joe Duran, Planning Commissioner Sandy Lucas, former council candidate David Wright, Stanislaus County Affordable Housing Corp. Executive Director Steve Madison and commercial real estate broker Brian Velthoen. The other members will come from the Chamber of Commerce, Building Industry Association and Manufacturers’ Council. Two council members also will serve on the 11-member task force, which will review development fees.
  • Annexed 14 acres along Pelandale Avenue in north Modesto into a community facilities district. The annexation includes 6 acres owned by Valley Children’s Hospital of Madera County. The hospital plans to open a specialty care center at the Pelandale site as soon as summer 2018.
