Info: The Stanislaus County Office of Education will be holding a free college application workshop for those students, and their families, that are interested in attending a University of California campus. What: MJC High School Orchestra Day
When: Thursday, 9:30 a.m.-1 p.m.
Where: Performing and Media Arts Center-MJC East Campus, 435 College Ave.
Info: Modesto Junior College will host nine Stanislaus County high schools in the annual High School Orchestra Day. The performance is free and open to the public and parking is free during event hours in the lots surrounding the auditorium. The high school orchestra students will perform works by a variety of composers including Anderson, Bach, Balmages, Beethoven, Gliere and Yamada. Info: The Modesto Junior College Office of Student Equity presents guest speaker Wes Moore. Moore is an author, social entrepreneur, producer, political analyst and decorated U.S. Army officer. He also served as the host of “Beyond Belief” on the Oprah Winfrey Network. The event is open to the public, and admission and parking are free. He will discuss his book “The Other Wes Moore: One Name, Two Fates” and how people are sometimes a single decision away from going in one direction or another. 50 YEARS AGO: In a mock national election, Grace Davis High School students elected Republican Ronald Reagan as California’s next governor. The schoolwide mock election was sponsored by the Grace Davis Chapter of the California Junior Statesmen of America. The students voted 774-680 to elect Reagan over then-Gov. Pat Brown. By 735-714, students voted that the California voting age should be lowered to 18.
