25 YEARS AGO: It was announced that the Housing Authority of Stanislaus County received $1.07 million from the federal Department of Housing and Urban Development to modernize the county’s HASC housing units, fight drugs and counsel clients. For the three categories, the $1.07 million would be divided into an $819,000 grant toward “modernization,” a $249,756 grant toward public housing drug elimination and a $7,000 grant toward home-ownership counseling. HASC also received an additional $1 million to fund 170 certificates and vouchers under its Section 8 Housing Assistance Program.
