50 YEARS AGO: A group of Turlock city officials went to Los Angeles to urge the state Highway Commission to alter its plans for the proposed 99 Freeway route through the city. Led by City Manager Richard Isenberg, the group gave a presentation to the commission members on how the altered route should be moved east of the Southern Pacific Railroad tracks at Monte Vista Road. The request also included a complete interchange that would provide service for the increase in traffic to Stanislaus State College and traffic going to and from the Turlock-Denair corridor. There was an objection by Mrs. R.O. Koenig, who said the alteration to the route was nothing more than a land grab to serve interests near the college.
