Cruise travelers who want to be the first to experience Holland America Line's biggest fleet upgrade project in its 153-year history can now secure a newly refreshed cabin on the first post-renovation voyages on Oosterdam.

The inaugural ship to undergo Holland America Evolution updates, Oosterdam is the first of six ships that will be transformed as the cruise line invests more than $500 million to modernize its fleet with thoughtful enhancements anchored in passenger feedback. Each ship will receive a bow-to-stern revitalization to enhance onboard spaces and accommodations and add signature venues from the cruise line's newest Pinnacle Class ships.

The first Holland America Evolution upgrades will debut in December 2027 as Oosterdam begins a new collection of post-renovation voyages that span multiple regions, which are now open for booking.

Upgraded Holland America Oosterdam will sail in multiple regions

Following its renovations in fall 2027, Oosterdam will sail a thoughtfully planned series of new Holland America Evolution itineraries that will give passengers the opportunity to experience the ship's onboard enhancements on a cruise offering unhurried exploration in Europe, the Caribbean, or North America.

Oosterdam will return to service Dec. 2, 2027, with a seven-day Western Mediterranean itinerary round trip from Barcelona, Spain, visiting Valencia and Malaga, Spain; Lisbon, Portugal; and Tangier, Morocco; before embarking on a 13-day transatlantic crossing to Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Passengers can also book the two itineraries together as one 20-day Collectors' Voyage for more time to enjoy the Mediterranean and the ship's new features.

Oosterdam will then spend the winter 2027/2028 season in the Caribbean, sailing a mix of nine‑, 11- and 12‑day itineraries that showcase the southern Caribbean as well as the ship's elevated onboard experience.

In spring 2028, Oosterdam will transit the Panama Canal while repositioning to the Pacific Coast, visiting ports throughout Central America and Mexico before sailing along the U.S. West Coast to the Pacific Northwest.

Oosterdam will add new stateroom categories, Grand Dutch Café

Travelers booking a cruise on the newly renovated Oosterdam can choose from a variety of new stateroom and suite categories created to reflect how cruise passengers travel today. Among the new stateroom categories is Holland America's first Solo Verandah cabins, which will offer a private balcony and dedicated workspace for solo travelers.

New premium accommodations include Bridgeview Suites, featuring panoramic ocean views and spacious living space, as well as Oosterdam's first Vista Suites.

Another highlight of Oosterdam's enhancements is the addition of Grand Dutch Café, a popular venue featured on the line's Pinnacle Class ships. Inspired by European café culture and Holland America's Dutch heritage, Grand Dutch Café serves coffee, pastries, and small plates in a relaxed yet refined setting reminiscent of cafés across Amsterdam and Northern Europe.

"We're excited about what Holland America Evolution represents for our fleet and for our guests," Michael Stendebach, senior vice president of food, beverage and rooms division for Holland America Line, said in a press release. "We can't wait to welcome guests aboard the elevated Oosterdam through these new voyages, where they'll be among the first to experience what this transformation brings. From the first step on board, guests will feel a more refined and thoughtfully designed experience, with new spaces like the Grand Dutch Café providing a sense of comfort and welcome as their vacation begins."
