The Leapfrog Group, a nonprofit organization that issues quality and safety grades for hospitals, released its fall 2017 report on more than 2,600 hospitals in the nation.
Doctors Medical Center of Modesto and Kaiser Modesto Medical Center received the top grades for patient safety.
For Doctors, it was the seventh time in a row the hospital has earned an “A” grade from Leapfrog, going back to fall 2014.
The Kaiser hospital also received an A after getting a B in Leapfrog’s spring report and Cs in 2016.
The Leapfrog safety grades are based on computations by top patient safety experts. More than 25 measures of patient safety are considered in scoring hospitals, including hospital-acquired infections, surgical mistakes, complications after surgery, falls and other medical errors.
Here are the scores for other hospitals in Stanislaus County, southern San Joaquin County and Tuolumne County:
– Doctors Hospital of Manteca, A
– Emanuel Medical Center of Turlock, B
– Memorial Medical Center of Modesto, C
– Sonora Regional Medical Center, C
Scores are not available for Oak Valley Hospital in Oakdale.
