Modesto's home-grown stars set to shine in 2009
Area actors are on prime-time TV, the silver screen and the Great White Way this year in high-profile projects. Here's a look at what is ahead for some of the Central Valley's best and brightest actors and actresses.
JAMES MARSTERS: The Davis High grad and "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" alum will crisscross from TV to film. First see him guest-star at 10 tonight on the CBS drama "Numb3rs." Then see him as the evil Lord Piccolo in "Dragonball Evolution" in the big-screen adaptation of the popular manga/anime/game series in theaters April 8. Later in the year, you can catch him as Buzz Aldrin in the docudrama "Moonshot" on the History Channel. More at www.jamesmarsters.com.
TIMOTHY OLYPHANT: See the Beyer High grad now as Wes on the second season of the Emmy-winning FX drama "Damages." His independent comedy "High Life" premières at the Berlin Film Festival this month. Coming in the summer, catch him in the thriller "A Perfect Getaway," with Milla Jovovich and Steve Zahn. Then in the fall, look for the adult romantic comedy "Elektra Luxx" with Carla Gugino and Alicia Silverstone. Later this winter, he will begin filming the sci-fi thriller "The Crazies."
TRICIA PAOLUCCIO: The Davis High alum appeared in three Broadway shows, most recently in the 2004 revival of "Fiddler on the Roof" as Chava. She recently played a mom whose baby was kidnapped in the ABC TV show "Life on Mars." She just finished two readings of new gangster musicals for "Bonnie and Clyde" and "Dillinger." She played Constanze in "Amadeus" for Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey.
JEREMY RENNER: The Beyer High grad received his second Independent Spirit Award nomination this year for best actor for his performance in the Iraq War drama "The Hurt Locker," his first was in 2003 for his title role in "Dahmer." His competition includes Sean Penn and Mickey Rourke. The awards will be broadcast Feb. 21 on IFC and AMC. On April 8, his new comedic police procedural, "The Unusuals," will première on ABC. Described as "Grey's Anatomy with guns," the series co-stars "Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants" star Amber Tamblyn and "Lost" castaway Harold Perrineau.
JEREMY STOLLE: Currently playing Passarino in "Phantom of the Opera" on Broadway, the 1994 Modesto High School graduate and his wife also are expecting a baby in two months.
