Horses, dancers, culture parade in Modesto to celebrate Mexican holiday

Horses, Mexico’s flags and a festive atmosphere Saturday greeted Cinco de Mayo a day early in Modesto.

South Modesto Businesses United presented the annual parade on Crows Landing Road, spanning from Olivero Road to Glenn Avenue, with floats, youth groups, cultural dancers, music and more.

The morning Cinco de Mayo Parade celebrated the May 5 holiday that marks Mexico’s victory over the French at the Battle of Puebla in 1862.

Also on Saturday, a popular Mexican street food was feted in advance of Cinco de Mayo, as the second Modesto Taco Fest took over a portion of 11th Street in downtown.
