Snow in the foothills, rain in Modesto. What awaits the Modesto area this weekend?
Snow in the Sierra foothills on Thursday night brought everything from driving hazards to a delay in the work day to a three-day weekend for kids.
What it didn't bring was the re-opening of Dodge Ridge.
Despite 9 inches of snow, the hope for the Tuolumne County ski and snowboard resort on Friday was that anticipated snow Monday and Wednesday would bring enough of the white stuff to open next weekend.
The snow did bring a two-hour delay to the start of school on Friday in Sonora and for all Mariposa County workers. In Catheys Valley, one school, Sierra Foothill Charter School, gave kids a "snow day" on Friday, wishing them a good weekend.
Down in the Modesto, there was plenty of frost that greeted residents in the early morning after 0.02 inches of rain fell on Thursday, according to the Modesto Irrigation District.
That was Modesto's first rain of February and only drops since Jan. 26.
The forecast calls for more on Monday after a weekend of sunny days with high temperatures in the 60s.
The morning temperatures will remain cold through Thursday, when more rain is predicted.
