A 32-year-old man working on his vehicle was shot in the La Loma area of Modesto on Sunday night.
His wounds were described as non-life threatening, according to Sgt. James Reeves of the Modesto Police Department.
The shooting was reported at 9:15 p.m. in the 2000 block of Moran Avenue just south of East La Loma Park.
Reeves said the suspect vehicle was described as a dark, four-door sedan with two people inside.
Investigators on Monday afternoon did not have a motive for the shooting, according to department spokeswoman Heather Graves. It was unclear whether the victim was working on his vehicle in his garage, driveway or on the street.
He was taken to a nearby hospital and treated for his wounds. No other injuries were reported.
