Modesto Community Concert Association announces 2016-17 season
Three groups and a solo artist are on the calendar for the 67th season of the Modesto Community Concert Association, one of the resident companies at Gallo Center for the Arts.
MCCA has been staging concerts since the early 1950s and offers subscription packages and individual tickets to its shows. Subscribers to the Modesto group also can attend concerts presented by the Turlock and Lodi community concert associations at no extra fee as part of the three groups’ reciprocity program.
In addition for 2016-17, MCCA’s Outreach Program will send three of its season artists into the community, where each will offer either a concert or a master class to school students and senior citizen groups. Outreach artists this year will be Café Musique, Matt Beilis and Everything Fitz.
The fourth group to play this season – which runs Sundays and one Wednesday from October through May – will be Gregg Young and the 2nd Street Band. Here’s a closer look at the bill:
▪ Gregg Young and the 2nd Street Band – 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 16: Long Beach-based Gregg Young brings other West Coast musicians for a show that features a blend of pop, smooth jazz, Latin and Americana music. For more, see www.greggyoung.com.
▪ Café Musique – 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 26: The San Luis Obispo-based group of five plays swing, tango, folk and “wildly classical” music. Musicians play the violin, guitar, bass and accordion. www.cafemusique.com.
▪ Matt Beilis – 3 p.m. Sunday, March 19: Singer-songwriter Beilis became a YouTube sensation with his piano and voice. Beilis re-creates old favorites and also offers original selections. www.mattbeilis.com.
▪ Everything Fitz – 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 3: This group melds fiddling and percussion step dancing with bluegrass, jazz and swing. The family of musicians combines their variety of musical styles in novelty numbers as well as choreographed dance routines. www.everythingfitz.ca.
