Arts briefs: West Side Theatre presents back-to-back nights of live music
Downtown Newman’s West Side Theatre presents back-to-back nights of live music this weekend.
First up is singer-songwriter Antsy McClain on Friday, Aug. 19. The solo show features the frontman for the Trailer Park Troubadours singing a mix of Americana music he has dubbed “folkabilly.” The acoustic show will feature his music and storytelling, as well as “famous slideshow” starting at 8 p.m. Tickets are $19 general, $22 reserved.
Then Saturday, Aug. 20, the theater welcomes Fleetwood Mask. The Fleetwood Mac tribute band has been endorsed by the original’s founder, Mick Fleetwood himself. Show starts at 8 p.m. Tickets are $22 general, $25 reserved.

“Chasing Four” screening
Catch an encore screening of the documentary “Chasing Four: The Story of the Central Catholic Raiders” this weekend.
The sports documentary from Modesto native and NFL Films cinematographer Dean Camara follows the 2015 football season for the three-time defending state champions, the Central Catholic Raiders. The film is narrated by former NFL player, coach and now ESPN personality Herman Edwards. The film premiered in Modesto in May.

Carnegie Arts Center Family Friday
The Carnegie Arts Center continues its Family Friday series with “Make It With Metal.”
The free program will give students the opportunity to band, bend, twist and shape metal art. Activities include foil embossing, wire sculpture and more. Participants are also invited to stop by the Gemperle Gallery to look at the metal sculptural work in the free pop-up exhibition by artist Dean DeCocker for inspiration.

Modesto Film Society
Watch E.T. phone you-know-where again.
The classic sci-fi film “E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial” will screen as part of the Modesto Film Society’s ongoing season at the State Theatre. The Steven Spielberg classic about a friendly extra-terrestrial stars Drew Barrymore, Henry Thomas and Peter Coyote.
