Les Misérables, School Edition
Youth Entertainment Stage Company celebrates its 25th anniversary with a student production based on the rousing Broadway musical “Les Misérables.” A cast of 80 performers from schools across Stanislaus County tackles the story of corruption, power, love and revolution set in 19th-century France. The student edition has been abridged from the original show.

Bear Valley Music Festival
Enjoy the diverse offerings during the multi-week Bear Valley Music Festival. The 48th annual event features jazz violinist Mads Tolling, cellist Emil Miland, Del Sol String Quartet, Llewellyn Sanchez-Werner and more presenting a variety of music styles including rock, classical, bluegrass and jazz. Festival will also feature tributes to Journey and The Beatles and a gala Aug. 6.

Twain Harte Summer Art & Wine Festival
The 39th annual Twain Harte Summer Art & Wine Festival will feature arts and crafts, a vintage car show and live entertainment including Tom Rigney and Flambeau to Comedy Industries and more. In conjunction with the event the Twain Harte chamber of commerce holds the Wines in the Pines benefit with wine and food tastings coupled with live music on Saturday.

Family Fridays
The Carnegie Arts Center is encouraging kids to “Say Yes To The Mess!” As part of its free Family Friday series, the downtown Turlock arts gallery is inviting youths to come make a mess with them. The outdoor event will have youths participating in messy art projects with lots of water and paint – all washable, so don’t worry, parents.

Prospect World Premiere
Prospect Theatre Project presents the final weekend of its World Premiere showcase. The summer program explores new works from current playwrights. This year’s is “The Orchard,” adapted from the work of Anton Chekhov by playwright Nick Zagone. The show focuses on the Benedettis, described as “the oddest farming family in Stanislaus County.”

History’s Mysteries
Get your old-timey sleuthing hat on with Columbia State Historic Park’s “History’s Mysteries” presentation. The costumed live re-enactment takes visitors back to the 1850s. This year’s mystery begins with a theft investigation. Participants can watch the results of the crime, interview witnesses and participate in a trial. Reservations recommended.
