Rocky Horror Picture Show
When the nonprofit State Theatre of Modesto Inc. took over a decade ago, it vowed never to screen “The Rocky Horror Picture Show” in the venue. Now the historic theater is bypassing those restrictions with an outdoor showing of the cult classic starring Tim Curry and Susan Sarandon. Audience members are encouraged to wear costumes, bring chairs and sing along.

Goo Goo Dolls
The Goo Goo Dolls bring their armada of radio hits to the Ironstone Amphitheatre in Murphys. Founding members John Rzeznik and Robby Takac recently released the band’s 11th studio album, “Boxes.” Their tour promises a sampling of new work plus hits like “Iris,” “Slide” and “Name.” Collective Soul and Tribe Society open the outdoor summer show.

Ashanti
R&B star Ashanti headlines the Stanislaus County Fair. Her hits include “Foolish,” “Rock wit U (Awww Baby)” and “Mesmerize.” The singer also has acted in movies like “John Tucker Must Die,” “Resident Evil: Extinction” and the new “Mothers & Daughters.” The fair concludes its 10-day run this weekend. Performing Friday is Kellie Pickler and Sunday Grupo Bronco.

MJC Summer Sonata
The Modesto Junior College Foundation celebrates with its 20th annual Summer Sonata fundraiser. The event is the premier fundraiser for the nonprofit group, which provides scholarships, grants and other educational support to the college. The evening will include food from Greens, fine wines and a program showcasing a 95th anniversary celebration video and alumni stories.

Summer Bash Car Show
The Fruit Yard hosts the 26th annual Summer Bash Car Show. The event will include a poker walk, coloring contest, vendor booths, food and more. The show sponsored by the Modesto F100 Elite Car Club is open to all makes and models. Admission is free to spectators. Proceeds will benefit Shriners, Soroptimists and Community Hospice.

Modesto Film Society
The Modesto Film Society opens its season with Marilyn Monroe’s final finished film, “The Misfits.” The modern Western written by Arthur Miller and directed by John Huston also starred Clark Gable and Montgomery Clift. The story centered around a recently divorced woman (Monroe) who spends time in the Nevada desert with two cowboys (Gable and Clift).
