Fourth of July Parade

Modesto gets patriotic with its 142nd annual Fourth of July Parade. The downtown event has been a city tradition since 1874. This year’s floats center around the theme “United We Stand” with grand marshal Chris Murphy from ModestoView. After the parade will be a free festival with children’s activities, live music, arts and crafts booths and more.

Much Ado About Nothing

Center Stage Conservatory presents the final weekend of its seventh annual Youth Summer Conservatory production. The program is staging an updated version of the Shakespeare comedy “Much Ado About Nothing.” This version is set in the world of superheroes and directed by Traci Sky Sprague. Come in superhero costume and get $5 off your ticket.

MoBand

Only two more chances to catch the summer tradition known as MoBand. The Modesto Band of Stanislaus County’s 97th season of free concerts in the park continues with its “Prom Night” show. The outdoor event draws thousands for a six-week run of shows and socializing in Graceada Park.

Shakespeare Live!

The State Theatre will screen the BBC special “Shakespeare Live!” filmed in honor of the 400th anniversary of The Bard’s death. The Royal Shakespeare Theatre event was hosted by David Tennant and Catherine Tate and included performances music and more by Benedict Cumberbatch, Judi Dench, Ian McKellen, Helen Mirren and Rufus Wainwright, among others.

Sierra Nevada Arts & Crafts Festival

Browse through all the offerings at the 44th annual Sierra Nevada Arts & Crafts Festival. The Independence Day weekend event in Arnold will feature more than 60 booths selling original crafts and and artwork in all different media. The festival will also include live music and food vendors.

Cortez Obon Festival

The Japanese American Cortez Obon Festival returns to Turlock. The event features obon dancing, cultural presentations, music and more. The farming community of Cortez was one of the original Japanese settlements in the 1900s. The free community event will feature performances in traditional dress and styles.
