Memorial Day

Cities throughout the Central Valley will commemorate Memorial Day this weekend. Ceremonies are planned in Turlock, Riverbank, Oakdale, Hughson, Santa Nella and beyond. In Modesto, the Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion will conduct their annual drop of flowers from the Seventh Street bridge into the Tuolumne River to honor those lost at sea.

Spring Luncheon Table Viewing

Pull up a chair to the annual Modesto Garden Club Spring Luncheon Table Viewing. The event will feature more than 30 tables decorated by club members in a variety of spring themes ranging from whimsical to elegant. Light refreshments will be served throughout the day. The club maintains a number of civic projects throughout the city year-round.

Mariposa Art & Wine Festival

Enjoy a day of art and wine in the foothills. The Mariposa Yosemite Rotary Club presents its 12th annual Art & Wine Festival. Festivities include samplings from local winemakers, live music and more. The event will include more than 30 artist booths and artists will be on hand offering demonstrations.

Spring Peddlers Faire

Browse more than 60 vendor booths at the 38th annual Spring Peddlers Faire in Arnold. The annual event features antiques, collectibles, handcrafted items, foods, vintage jewelry and more. The Volunteer Fire Department serves local beers and a variety of homemade food. Lions Club holds a pancake breakfast from 8-11 a.m. both days.

Family Friday

Downtown Turlock’s Carnegie Arts Center continues its popular and free monthly Family Friday series. For its Memorial Day weekend the center will Beat the Drum. African drumming teacher Khemya Mitrahina will give a workshop and participants can to try out different beats and rhythms.

Calaveras Community Band

The Calaveras Community Band will present a special Memorial Day concert. The event is the kickoff for the group’s 2016 free outdoor music series at Murphys Community Park. The Murphys Community Club-sponsored show will honor those in the armed forces with a mix of patriotic songs, marches, jazz, Latin music and more.
