‘Heteroglyphs’ art exhibit; Green at Fat Cat

Art Space on Main, part of the California State University, Stanislaus, School of the Arts, presents the exhibition “Heteroglyphs,” which features works by artist and professor David Olivant.

Olivant’s work consists of assemblages of various materials such as ceramic figures and plastic tubes. The exhibit begins Thursday and will be on view through Feb. 27. An opening reception and artist talk will be held Feb. 5 at 5:30 p.m.

The Green at Fat Cat

Hawaii-based reggae band The Green plays the Fat Cat Music House & Lounge on Wednesday, part of the group’s six-week Chocolate and Roses tour. Also playing will be Through The Roots and Skanks Roots Project.

The Green’s new album, “Hawai’i ’13,” debuted at No. 1 on Billboard’s Reggae Chart, and No. 77 on Billboard’s Top 200 Chart. The band opened for Bruno Mars at three sold-out Honolulu concerts in 2014.

In the Round concerts

The In the Round concert series continues with a show today featuring Modesto Area Music Award best singer-songwriter Patty Castillo Davis and indie Americana artist Chris Farris

The event begins at 7 p.m. at the Barkin’ Dog Grill, 930 11th St., Modesto. Cover is $7 for the all-ages show and reservations are suggested. Call (209) 572-2341.

Bronze works at CSU Stanislaus

The California State University, Stanislaus, University Art Gallery presents works by Cheryl Barnett, “35 Years in Bronze,” from Thursday to Feb. 27. An opening reception will be held Feb. 12 at 5:30 p.m. with an artist talk at 6 p.m.

Barnett abstracts the figure in cast bronze sculpture, ranging from 6-inch pieces to 8-foot works.

Barnett offers classes at Merced College in sculpture, design and 20th-century art history. The exhibit is free and open to the public. For more, call (209) 667-3958.

SAXsational in Turlock

Jazz artist Rob Verdi brings his “SAXsational” program of popular jazz standards, movie and television favorites to Turlock Community Theatre on Feb. 10.

The 7:30 p.m. show is part of the Turlock Concert Association season. Single tickets are $25, $15 for students.
