MJC Improv Show

Modesto Junior College continues its Summer Survival Improv Show the next two weekends. The show will use audience suggestions to present a full-length play focused on surviving summer vacation. MJC theater arts professor Lynette Borrelli-Glidewell will direct with live music by Ryan Fikejs and the dialogue and storyline will be all improvised.

Central Valley Brewfest

The annual sudsy celebration known as the Central Valley Brewfest returns to the Stanislaus County Fairgrounds. The fourth annual 21-and-older event will feature more than 150 beers to sample. Admission includes unlimited beer sampling, access to food trucks, live music from the band Flying Blind and entrance to an art show and sale by Art Expressions of San Joaquin.

Shakespeare at the State

The four-week free program Shakespeare at the State concludes with screenings of the Bard’s pastoral comedy “As You Like It.” The 1963 black-and-white film adaptation was produced by the Royal Shakespeare Company and starred Vanessa Redgrave and Ian Richardson. The complimentary screening program was a partnership with BBC Worldwide.

Waterford Heritage Day

The once-a-year celebration of the city of Waterford and its heritage continues. Waterford Heritage Day will fete the town’s 159-year history with a parade, street fair, vendor booths, pony rides, train rides, live music, children’s activities, food booths and more. The volunteer-organized event is put on by a committee of community members annually.

Modesto Cycling Expo

Celebrate the Amgen Tour of California as its riders and crews sleep over in the city. The Modesto Cycling Expo will feature pit crews from the race at bike washing and tune-up stations. The festivities will also include cycling demos, food trucks, giveaways and more. There will be a meet-and-greet with professional cyclists Jens Voigt and Fred Rodriguez.

MSYO season finale

The Modesto Symphony Youth Orchestra closes out its 39th season led by symphony conductor Ryan Murray and concert conductor Donald C. Grishaw. The show will feature the winners of the 2015-2016 MSYO Concerto Competition as well as nearly 120 student musicians from schools across the Central Valley.
