State Theatre has closed-caption glasses

The historic State Theatre has become more accessible to the hearing impaired.

The downtown Modesto theater has been able to purchase three pairs of Sony Entertainment Access Glasses, which allow the wearer to read projected closed captions of the film’s dialogue. The theater spent a year fundraising to get $7,000 for the purchase. They will be available free of charge to hearing-impaired patrons during the theater’s showings of digital, first-run features. The glasses are not compatible with some older and classic film offerings.
