The Turlock Concert Association ends its season with a case of Stringfever this week.

The show will feature the four-man string quartet that offers an innovative and humorous takes on the electric violin, viola and cello. The group plays an eclectic mix of music, including famous pieces from classical music, film and beyond. The London-based band plays internationally and consists of three brothers and a cousin.

Tim Flannery

The nonprofit Omega Nu, which raises funds to support groups throughout the community, is bringing in baseball star turned singer-songwriter Tim Flannery for a benefit show Saturday, May 7.

The Concert Under the Stars will feature Flannery, known as Flan to fans, starting at 6 p.m. at the The Old Fisherman’s Club located at 10800 Maze Blvd. in Modesto. The event will include a sport memorabilia silent auction, no-host bar, appetizers and dessert. Flannery was the third-base coach for the San Francisco Giants and spent more than 30 years in the major leagues. He has also released 11 albums.

Evening of Dance, Poetry and Song

Turlock’s Carnegie Arts Center will celebrate with An Evening of Dance, Poetry and Song Saturday, May 7.

The benefit event will combine modern dance with poetry and music for an evening of arts integration. The show is produced by One Performing Arts under the direction of Tami Stark-McQueen. All proceeds benefit the Carnegie Arts Center’s Arts in Education Program.

Sierra Repertory Theatre Jr.

Sierra Repertory Theatre Jr. is set to stage the interactive children’s musical “The Jumping Frog of Calaveras County” starting this week.

The new production is based on the classic Mark Twain story by the same name, which helped make the foothills community famous. The musical is written by and stars Sierra Rep Education Director Ralph Krumins. The show combines local history with different styles of music, from hip-“hop” to Western and even ballet. Audiences of all ages will act along as they help weave the original tale.

MJC improv show

Modesto Junior College presents its Summer Survival Improv Show starting Thursday, May 12.

The long-form improv event will be presented as a full-length play focused on surviving summer vacation. The performers will draw on audience suggestions and the show will be completely improvised. The production will feature Johnathon Smith, Salvador Vasquez, Marilyn Diaz, Cecilia Rodriguez, Luis Maya, Christina Gonzalez, Jonathan Cavazos, Jelani Brown and Jillian Berry. MJC theater arts professor Lynette Borrelli-Glidewell will direct with live music by Ryan Fikejs.
